Nobel Prize for Weird Science Awarded to Reno Youth

Reno, NV     Warrick "Mad Dog, Jr." Macmillan, a 4th grader at Cauglin College for Dentistry and Renaissance Arts, is this year’s recipient of the coveted Nobel Prize for Weird Science. Macmillan received the award for his study on internet access using diverse "bit hauling" techniques.

The study compared download times for 56KB modems, DSL links, and Cable modems. While the study’s techniques have been questioned by some big-money telecommunications spin merchants, the results seem to be irrefutable; CABLE RULES!!! The entire study is available at http://www.wyborny.com/speed.htm and is summarized in two charts showing download time and effective transmission rates.

The pwho_knows.jpg (72024 bytes)roject was funded, in part, by a grant in the amount of $40,000,000 by the National Science Foundation. According to Mr. Wonderful, senior (very senior) research associate and grant administrator, the funds were used primarily for engineering notebooks, pens, clipboards, stopwatches, lab coats, data clerk salaries, a red 2001 Ferrari 360 F-1 Modena (to reduce the travel time between test sites), and legal fees associated with the pardoning of Mr. Wonderful’s cousin.

Mr. Macmillan is planning an extensive university lecture tour over the summer. Inquiries concerning his schedule, availability, and fee structure may be made through his agent, Mr. Wonderful. Priority and significant discounts will apply for institutions providing grass and/or clay tennis courts.
