Internet service providers Which is Fastest?
by Warrick Macmillan

Problem

Which Internet Server Connection will download pictures and data faster from a web site?

1. Dial up phone connection
2. Cable Modem
3. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)

Hypothesis

I think that DSL will download pictures and data faster than either a dial-up connection or cable modem.

Materials

1. Stopwatch for timing to 1/100 of a second.
2. Notebook and pencil for recording data.
3. Laptop computer (windows 98)and Internet Browser (Netscape Navigator 4.7) so all data collected is on the same machine at the same capability.
4. Access to the three kinds of service providers

1. dial up networking – my house.

2. cable modem – Mr. Wonderful’s house.

3. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) – Phil’s house.
